Thanks to the OpenSource driver, this card work totally OutOfBox; you have all the opensource drives available feature enabled from the first boot.
The bad news is that:
Opensource driver have bad performance: accelerated 2d and 3d rendering is nearly inexistent
Video = lags
3d = lags
Proprietary driver (which usually give better performance) are inexistent as well: ATI never supported this card for Linux and never will do.
If you plan to use Linux with proprietary driver (factory driver): avoid any older ATI product.
Anyway, its possible that OpenSource driver for this card will improve with time... today (5 sept. 2010) are multimedia noncompliance: do not buy it.
Ubuntu(s) tested:
- Karmic
- Lucid
