The ASDA Smart Price webcam comes as a VOIP kit, there's a seperate headset included. The headset is basic (this is Smart Price afterall), but it does work, albeit a little uncomfortably.
The webcam is fairly small, about 35x35x12mm in size with an adjustable "clip" stand - the stand doubles as both a basic base and as a LCD monitor clip stand which adjusts by means of a screw. Simple to adjust and seems stable. The webcam sits on a ball joint so there's a good range of rotation. As per a lot of webcams, focus is adjusted by rotating the lens CW or CCW. There's also a small green LED underneath the lens to indicate that the webcam is active.
The webcam is very basic (320x240), runs on USB1.1, and that does have an effect on fps; they're not high. Colour quality is not exceptional, a bit of excessive green hue in there, but decent webcam software can make adjustments for that.
For all its shortfalls, it works immediately on Ubuntu 8.04. Ekiga, Kopete, Cheese, motion, Camorama, and amsn all see it and the webcam responds to their respective video settings. I did not have to perform any type of v4l configuration at all. It shows up as a "Qtec Webcam 100"
I've given this a rating of 3. The quality could certainly be better, but for all that, it's an honest and reliable webcam that is useable enough to do the job.
