The Compaq Presario V5000 on initial install of Ubuntu 7.10 lacks a driver for the ATI Radeon XPress 200M graphics card. There is also no support for the wireless card, a Broadcom 4318 54g Air Force One wireless card. On Ubuntu 7.10, the graphics card and the wireless card can be activated through the "Restricted Manager." Note that the graphics card does not support Compiz, although it does support accelerated graphics.
All buttons, such as volume control, wireless button (after driver installation) and all ports work. Overall, it is a very good laptop, and once the restricted drivers are installed, it is perfectly supported.
